New Year’s Eve Makeup Tutorial by Melanie Mills

The holidays are a perfect time to try something fresh and new with your makeup. Make the perfect holiday statement with this glam makeup tutorial from Melanie Mills. Melanie Millsis an Emmy Award-winning makeup artist and one of Hollywood’s leading style-makers and beauty consultants. Melanie is also the creator of the high fashion makeup line Gleam By Melanie Mills and the author of the gorgeous beauty book Glitter & Glam.

Melanie shows this glam look on the different skin tones. “For holiday party and New Year’s makeup, I did three women: a white, black and Hispanic girl each to show what I recommend. I deepen the palette as I work on all of the women from light to deeper skin tones, but the idea and the steps are the same.”

Melanie explains that eye makeup is a build; you need to layer color, liner and lashes to get the maximum effect!  “Also skin, the chest, arms and legs need to be rocking Gleam Body Radiance for that velvet finish to skin. Keep the palette simple, and let the power of a bright bold perfectly carved mouth, brow and lit-from-within skin do the talking!”

For this makeup tutorial, Melanie played in the red corals, more orangeintensity and juicy pops of color too. “The holidays mean red of all shades. Red is love. Red is intense. Red reminds me of the perfect lip. Red is sexy and alluring,” says Melanie.

Here is how to get the look step by step:

Step 1: Apply foundation to all of the face, neck and eyelids. Contour from under the cheekbones and jawline and down the sides of the nose with gray /taupe cream (Melanie likes Tuttle). Apply a bright peach or red cream blush to the cheekbones. Blend all of this with a good foundation brush and a BeautyBlender sponge. Lightly powder face with translucent powder

Step 2:Fill in the brows (lightly) with taupe shadow and a clear wax using an angled eye shadowbrush (Senna makes a great kit). Brush out the beginnings of the brow upward

Step 3: Using an eye shadowbrush apply bone colored cream eye shadow all over the beginnings of the brow upward. With an eye shadowbrush, apply the deepest color in the crease and a copper, champagne or gold shimmery color on the lid

Step 4: Apply bright orange (MAC) loose pigment or pressed shadow to the outer corner of the eye, blending back into the crease

Step 5: Line the upper and lower waterlines with a black or brown gel liner (MAC)

Step 6: Tightly line the top lash line and then buff it out with a small blunt eyeshadow brush. Using a small blunt eyeshadow brush, blend over the liner at the lash line with a shimmery soft brown eye shadowapply it under all of the eye and up around the outer corner of the eye

Step 7: Line the upper lash line again with a small pointy eyeliner brush. All of these actions even repeated create depth and this final sweep creates precision

Step 8: Curl the lashes and apply mascara. Apply individual flare lashes in short, medium and long in layers using Dark Duo glue. Apply mascaraagain

Step 9: Dust rose goldor deep gold shimmer Radiant Dust (Gleam) onto the cheeks using a fluffy blush brush

Step 10: Line and fill in the lips with a Tangerine or deep red lip-liner Apply a peach lip gloss on top.

Then, use rose gold body makeup (Gleam) all over the body to complete the look.
