Community star Donald Glover has posted a series of troubling notes , all written longhand on hotel stationery and posted to his Instagram account, revealing, “I’ve been sick this year. This is the first time I’ve felt helpless.”

“I feel like I’m letting everyone down. I’m afraid people hate who I really am. I’m afraid I hate who I really am,” he wrote. “I’m afraid my parents won’t live long enough to see my kids … I’m scared [my girl’s] still in love with that dude.”

Dr. A.R. Mohammad is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Diplomate, American Board of Addiction Medicine, and he weighed in on this topic, saying Glover may be showing real signs of depression.

Several celebrities are dealing with their personal demons; Amanda Bynes’ psychological disorders are still keeping the actress in treatment; Mischa Barton just revealed that she had a breakdown because of the pressures of Hollywood and just a few months ago young actor and former Disney TV star, Lee Thompson Young shockingly committed suicide.

“From just reading his notes that he publicly posted on Instagram, Mr. Glover is showing his helplessness and hopelessness which are the fundamentals of depression.  I don’t know his personal history, if he is using drugs or if he has any depression in his family but he is definitely showing the classic signs of depression.  This is an obvious cry for help and needs to seek professional help immediately,” says Dr. Mohammad.

Glover also revealed he has anxiety over his work. Dr. Mohammad says, “Stress can cause anxietyor depression especially in Hollywood where ‘celebrity’ is very important and means the difference between getting a pay check and getting an unemployment check. If these celebrities don’t get professional help they will often self medicate and turn to drugs or alcohol which in turn makes theiranxiety and depression even worse to point that they attempt or actually commit suicide.”

Dr. Mohammad is an Adjunct Clinical Associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at USC and has published many scientific papers on psychiatry.    Dr. Mohammad is also the owner/founder of Inspire Malibu Treatment Center (www.inspiremalibu.com) which treats patients with addiction issues and psychological problems.
