The holidays have officially commenced, with Halloween trailblazing the way to the next notable event, Veteran’s Day.
Next week, the nation will take time honor people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces… our veterans. But one brand new company has decided that it wants to honor these men and women all year long… not just on November 11.
Imagine if fictional characters Roger Sterling and Don Draper (both were veterans) were a bit older, wiser, and retired but still itching to claim a stake in the business realm?
Dancing Moon Coffee was started by two former Madison Ave. “Mad Men” and a life-long coffee aficionado. They are convinced that the future of the industry belongs to boutique brands like theirs that go beyond merely identifying the growing region of a particular varietal.
That is the story of the founders of Dancing Moon Coffee, three men who were lifelong friends who just hated the word “retirement” and who really adored coffee, especially the coffee that business entrepreneur Jamie Weldon was importing and sharing with his pals Nick Pronovich and Gunar Skillins.
An idea was hatched, but not just a greedy corporate grab of the burgeoning java business, but one that was fueled by their desire to share proper coffee brewing secrets and resurrect the art of the grind (Burr grinder is their recommendation).
For the guys, the joys of going more “old school” in daily coffee preparation yield a better cuppa. They also wanted to have a portion of their proceeds benefit a charity that helped American veterans.
Dancing Moon Coffee is happy to share their good fortune with the veteran community. They donate 5% of all their profits to the Semper Fi Fund. Benefiting injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Semper Fi Fund is one of the most worthwhile and highly rated charitable organizations in America.
Since 2004, Semper Fi Fund is set up to provide immediate financial assistance and lifetime support for wounded, critically ill and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces, directing urgently needed resources to post 9/11 service members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Reserves.
They offer assistance to lessen the burden and boast a streamlined structure keeps overhead at a very low 6%. They are also one of three veteran charities to receive an “A+” rating from The American Institute of Philanthropy, and a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. The Semper Fi Fund has given more than 83,000 grants totaling $99 million+ to over 13,000 heroes and their families. And to that, Weldon, Pronovich, and Skillins raise their coffee cups and say “thanks” to all veterans for the sacrifice for our country.
In time to celebrate the holidays, the Dancing Moon Coffee company has released a requested new addition, K-Cups of Jamaica Blue coffee, the real deal.
The brand’s latest offering – Jamaica Blue Mountain is a coffee varietal considered one of the rarest in the world, with coffee plants encompassing only 9,000 acres in the island’s lush and cool interior highlands.
But Dancing Moon Coffee drills down even deeper. “Our roasted Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee comes from Radnor Estate, one of the oldest coffee estates in Jamaica,” says Dancing Moon Coffee co-founder Jamie Weldon. “It is intrinsically medium in body, mild in acidity and characterized by notes of citrus and chocolate.”
The rest of Dancing Moon Coffee varietals are single source as well as certified organic and fair trade. These kinds of details may go over the heads of most coffee drinkers who douse their beverage with milk or sugar. But for the informed consumer who can tell the difference between an Ethiopian and a Kenya coffee, it is java nirvana.
The new 100% Board Certified Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is not a blend. In short:
•Single Estate Origin.
•Exquisite aroma and smooth rich taste.
•Compatible with most single-serve coffee brewers.
•5% of all profits are donated to The Semper Fi Fund to benefit wounded servicemen and their families.
