Is Lipo a Miracle Worker?
We’ve all said this at one point, “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could just suck that fat right off my stomach?” Then we’d look even more amazing in that little black dress and not have to wear our Spanx (even though they work miracles). But the so-called miracle sucker we’re talking about is liposuction.
There’s a rumor out there that says if you have lipo say on your stomach, the fat returns to a different part of your body. That’s why we took our lipo questions to Dr. Aaron Rollins of Sono Bello in Beverly Hills.
Does the Fat Return?
The myth is that if you get lipo, the fat will just find another place to appear but that is not true. Whether or not you have lipo, you can always gain weight. It’s just very hard to gain it in areas that have been lipo-ed unless you really, really try. Lipo sometimes helps jump start a persons weight loss regime.
Explain the Different Fat Removal Procedures
There are lots of different names for Liposuction: Dry Lipo, Wet Lipo, Super Wet Lipo, Tumescent Lipo, etc. They are basically either traditional or wide awake laser sculpture. Wide awake lipo has a lot of benefits: less pain, less invasive, the patient is not put under and has a quicker recovery, and it puts a smaller dent in your wallet.
Lipo Isn’t a Magic Wand
The canula (the tool to suck out your fat) is not a magic wand. All you problems won’t disappear when you get lipo, it’s a tool to help you get on the right path. The biggest physical misconception is that your body will get lumpy. Lumps from lipo doesn’t have to do with lipo, but with the person doing it. It’s like a hair dresser. They all use scissors but not everyone will have a good haircut.
I Want Lipo, What Do I Ask the Doctor?
You should ask how often they perform lipo. If they don’t do the surgery almost everyday, they won’t do it as well as a doctor who does. You want to go to a surgeon who is an expert in the type of procedure you’re having done. If you choose a doctor who does lipo as a secondary specialty, you increase your changes of complications with body proportion, lumps, or scarring.
If I Don’t Want Lipo, What Else Can I Do?
The only other procedure that works is called, dieting! Don’t waste your time or money on procedures that claim to get rid of your fat by taking pills, wrapping your body in plant extracts, or even magic creams from infomercials. The only options to lose fat are with diet or lipo.
How Dangerous Are the Dangers of Lipo?
The most common dangers are poor results, toxicity from anesthesia, allergic reaction to lidocaine, or blood clots. Any good doctor will know how to avoid these outcomes.
Dr. Rollins has performed over 4,000 procedures in the last 6 years. He specializes in wide-awake body sculpting and contouring.
