Going To Great Lengths For Arms Like Michelle Obama’s

Women everywhere are clamoring to get arms just like First Lady Michelle Obama.

Rita Badawe loves to shop, but the flabby skin under her arms makes her uncomfortable when trying on clothes. We went to Debra C in Beverly Hills where the 30-year-old administrative assistant tried on sleeveless clothes.

She said, “When I look at Michelle Obama’s arms I feel like, ‘Wow, I wish I could get that look, how could I get it?’ I feel like I have ham hocks. It’s sad.”

She is getting married in a few months and wants to have taut arms like Michelle Obama for her wedding day. So she went to board certified plastic surgeon Nicholas Nikolov to have liposuction on her upper arms.

He said, “What we want to take away is some of this fat here, and also make sure it’s not hanging. And get a little bit of a tighter look.”

An excited Rita was wheeled into the operating room. The doctor makes a small incision, then sucks out the excess fat from her arms. After the fat is removed, a laser is inserted. A laser is used to firm up the skin. The entire procedure took one hour.

Now, Rita is on her way to having arms exactly like the first lady.

New Smart Lipo Procedure Promises Less Scarring, Better Results

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — There’s a new alternative to traditional liposuction that promises less down time, minimal scarring and better results.

“Smart Lipo” is a procedure that uses a laser fiber enclosed in a thin tube that is inserted through a small incision in the skin to remove unwanted fat.

It only takes 45 minutes and most people can return to work the following day.

“The beauty of this procedure is the fact that we can do it under local anesthesia,” said Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Nicholas Nikolov.

Smart Lipo costs about $5,000 per area of the body.

Patient Seana Ryan said she was happy with the procedure.

“I’m not really interested in doing anything with the knife per se,” Ryan said. “I just want to do little things that will make me look natural.”

New Cellulaze Treatment Proves Effective Against Cellulite

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — It’s been called “cottage cheese skin,” and “the orange peel syndrome.” Cellulite is a condition that has women hiding under their clothes or their beach towels.

But now, a new technology can permanently reduce cellulite by 50 to 70 percent.

It’s called Cellulaze, and it’s an FDA-approved surgical laser therapy that attacks the structure of cellulite.

Doctors conduct the procedure under local anesthesia in one to two hours. It costs between $5,000 and $7,000.

“Nothing really gets rid of cellulite 100 percent,” Dr. Nicholas Nikolov says. “However, with Cellulase, we can improve cellulite by 50-70 percent depending on the cause and the amount of cellulite. And this is permanent; it’s not a temporary treatment.”

“Some of the results you see immediately,” Nikolov says. “Two months later, you see a bigger improvement. But the final improvement is finalized after about two years.”

Eyebrow Love: The fuller brow makes its comeback, expert advice

Eyebrows frame the eye and create a powerful balance on the face.

“Eyebrows are back and full again,” says Emmy Award winning makeup artist Melanie Mills, who spoke to me on the phone today from Style Fashion Week LA, where she has spent the last week designing the makeup for fashion stars Anh Volcek, MILA, Skingraft, Ina Soltani and more.

“They frame the eye and set the mood for a makeup, and the more natural fuller, groomed brow is what we are seeing most this season. I love it.” Mills is also sponsoring the Fashion Event with her own line of cosmetics.

To achieve a fuller eyebrow is easier said than actually doing for many women. A lifetime of overtweezing or waxing can destroy the opportunity.

“I use Anastasia’s Brow colors and pencils, and Benefit’s Brow Zings too, along with MAC’s staple ‘Lingering’ brow pencil,” says Mills. “A good rule of thumb is to always feather the color from the top line of the brow, versus filling in from the bottom up.”

“The best thing to do when grooming is follow your natural brow shape. A full brow really does frame your face and emphasise your eyes in a classic way,” says Mills.

There are several ways to effect this look, some surgical, some topical and some cosmetic.

Cellulite treatment Cellulaze delivers results, according to top Plastic Surgeon

Cellulite. You know it, you hate it, and some people are plagued with the sub-dermal adipose (fat) tissue irregularity more than others.

Asians are rarely afflicted with it, ever.

This uneven and dimpled fat layer is a non life-threatening condition that affects almost 90 percent of women and 10 percent of men, and almost always in Westernized nations.

A lot can change at high altitudes. For David G. Davtyan, MD, FACS,
FICS, the thin air at the 2001 Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium
(MISS) in Snowbird, Utah, caused him to become short of breath. He
called his wife and gasped, “My fat is taking over my lungs!”

Davtyan had gradually reached a size that was causing him to tire
easily, but because he was successful in his career and personal life,
he wasn’t ashamed of his weight. It wasn’t until he attended an MISS
presentation given by Guy-Bernard Cadiere, MD, PhD, on laparoscopic
adjustable gastric banding that Davtyan considered undergoing the
procedure.

Trade in breast implants like an old car?

Women shouldn’t get the idea that changing breast sizes is as simple
as trading in a used car.

But some Hollywood celebrities are acting that way.

“Stars are treating breast surgery like getting a new car,” says
Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nicholas Nikolov. Celebrities decide
that their implants “are too big, too small, or they are uncomfortable.
So they trade them in for a different model.”

He cites TV personality Sharon Osbourne, singer/designer Victoria
Beckham and actress Denise Richards among the stars
who have had their breast implants removed or plan to do so.

Cosmetic Surgery Isn’t Vain – It’s Survival

When does cosmetic surgery stop being about looking better
and start being about survival? 

It is no secret that beautiful people are revered.

We are all
painfully aware that each A-list celeb can be described as beautiful…if
not drop-dead gorgeous. Just take a look at George Clooney, Angelina
Jolie and Brad Pitt…

And now a recent study proves that human
beings are hard wired to actually prefer beautiful people. Couple that
with the legion of books which all hail the science of beauty, including
“Survival of the Prettiest” by Nancy Etcoff… all which lead us to
conclude that beauty is not quite as “skin deep” as stipulated by the
popular expression. A recent study conducted by ABC’s 20/20 shows that
human beings react more warmly to a person in distress if they are
beautiful. Which begs the question, are people really that shallow?

The answer, which is based in scientific fact, lends some much needed
insight…human beings are simply reacting to their own genetic instinct
when they appreciate and are drawn to beautiful people. But when you
combine the symptoms of “coveting beauty” to what can best be described
as a rocky economy you get an outcome that few could have predicted, a
spike in what many are labeling “survivalist” plastic surgery.

their own practices have received from the free publicity given to the
Lap-Band as a less invasive alternative to gastric bypass surgery.

Facelift Performed While You’re Awake – Today on “The Doctors”

Non-surgical procedures have seen a boost in recent years largely
because many fear the long recovery period associated with cosmetic
surgery procedures. There are some physicians who have found a
happy medium for their patients that balances the more dramatic effects
of surgery while minimizing pain and downtime.

Facelift
is a very popular surgery amongst those looking to remove fine lines
and wrinkles and restore skin’s youthful tightness. However,
traditional facelift procedures involve some uncomfortable recovery and
significant swelling and bruising. Often several weeks pass before a
patient is really able to see the full results. New advances in
facelift technique are minimizing that recovery period and patients are
seeing their results sooner than ever.

Recently featured on The
Doctors, Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nicholas Nikolov has
developed what he calls a Nick-Tuck procedure. This facelift is
performed while the patient is awake, with only local sedation.
Additionally, Dr. Nikolov uses a fibrin glue to help adhere the skin
flap back to the underlying tissues. He says that this technique helps
reduce some of the signs of surgery such as bruising, swelling, and
discomfort. Dr. Nikolov also uses a smaller incision than with
classical facelift, so that the patient has less scarring as well.

Women have more help aging naturally

Victoria Homann is a firm believer in aging
gracefully. She exercises, eats nutritious foods and makes regular
visits to the League City practice of Dr. Elena Geppert, a plastic
surgeon.

But Homann, 48, isn’t ready for anything as drastic as a full face-lift. She hopes to avoid that for some time.

So
Homann, a grandmother who sells nutraceutical supplements for a living,
visits Geppert’s Harbour Plastic Surgery, 3033 Marina Bay Drive, for
minor procedures. Those include laser skin resurfacing and injectables
such as Botox, and hyaluronic acid fillers that help plump her face and
fill in lines. Homann said her favorite procedure is Sculptra
Aesthetic, a polylactic acid approved last year for cosmetic use, to
correct lines and folds. Sculptra is commonly referred to as the
“liquid face-lift.”

The recession hasn’t stopped U.S. consumers
from seeking professional help to turn back time. In 2008, doctors
performed 12 million plastic surgery procedures. But the economy has
changed the type of procedures in demand, observers say.

How to Score a 10: Plastic Surgery for Men

According to movies, television shows and best selling
novels, the ideal look for a man must include 6 pack abs, a chiseled
jaw line, perfect pecs and oh, flawless skin… a tall order for even the
macho-est of the species.

So, more and more…men are turning to NIPS/ tucks and implants to achieve perfection.

In
a recent phenomenon, men now represent a growing segment of the
aesthetic surgery market. According to a February, 2008 consumer
survey, 57% of men approve of cosmetic surgery, with 20% saying they
would consider plastic surgery. Surprisingly, seventy-nine percent
(79%) of American men surveyed say they would not be embarrassed if
people, in addition to their family and close friends knew they had
undergone cosmetic surgery. Renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas
