Miami is most vain city in America

Vanity, thy name is Miami.

Just look around at all the botoxed faces and tucked tummies decked out in designer duds, driving down U.S. 1 in Maseratis. Send them season’s greetings for boosting our economy.

Miami recently ranked as the most vain city in the United States, based on residents’ responses to a poll conducted by Mandala Research and released by LivingSocial.

Miami also topped the nation in such procedures as laser hair removal, tummy tucksliposuction and collagen injections, according to the poll, based on an unscientific percentage of respondents who know someone who had the work done.

It all translates into a windfall for local businesses that cater to enhancing beauty or selling the finer accoutrements of life.

“Miami has a little bit of ‘You are what you wear, you are what you drive’ culture,” said Cynthia Cohen, an expert on the luxury market and president of Miami-based Strategic Mindshare, a retail strategy consulting firm.

No doubt, the weather helps promote the Miami attitude.

“It’s easy to have a luxury car in Miami because it’s not going to be messed up by snow and salt,” Cohen said.

Also, a Prada dress doesn’t have to be covered up by a parka, or those Christian Louboutins traded in for lug-soled boots.

“You can always wear expensive high heels in Miami, and the worst thing that is going to happen is they get rained on,” Cohen said. In fact, Miami consistently ranks as one of the largest luxury car markets in the country, and local designer shops generate top revenue, thanks to high-net-worth residents and visitors willing to shell out for high-end goods.

Demand for cosmetic procedures, along with breast enhancements and even derriere lifts, also is surging. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery said Americans spent almost $10.7 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2010. Dr. Constantino Mendieta, a Miami plastic surgeon and spokesman for the organization, said Miami is one of the top cities. His own business is up 10 percent this year.

Scarborough Research shows that South Florida adults are 50 percent more likely to have had cosmetic surgery in the past three years than adults nationwide.

Miami BeachSouth Beach, no question it’s the vain capital of the world,” said Dr. Leonard Tachmes, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose clinic and medical spa is in Miami Beach. “South Beach — there is nothing like it anywhere. The people are very obsessed with beauty and style and fashion and their bodies, and it’s a little crazy.”

Just take some of Tachmes’ most popular procedures: the Brazilian butt lift, liposuction and breast augmentation.

“We are busy, and there seems to be no end in sight,” Tachmes said.

Pippa’s Butt: 2011’s Most Popular Body Part

No one can deny that we saw an inordinate amount of attention paid to Pippa Middleton this year. Her beautiful white sheath on sister Kate Middleton’s wedding day was one thing, and her athletic (yet sometimes partying) reputation was equally as appealing. But what really impressed people the most was her butt. So much so that millions around the world have been meticulously staring at it for months now. And this craze has inspired some pretty strange things.

Pippa’s toned and shapely derriere had women (and men) all over the world sitting up to take notice. Suddenly, everyone wanted to know: How did she get such a great ass? Who cares if it was padded or not, we wanted it. I’ll have what she’s having!

The “Pippa Butt Lift” became the latest trend as plastic surgeons were flooded with patients who wanted Pippa’s royal rear end.

In an interview with Fox News, plastic surgeon Dr. Constantino Mendieta said he now gets more requests for her derriere than J-Lo’s or even Kim Kardashian’s :

Do your ears hang low? You may be old – Top plastic surgeon talks lobes

Dr. Nicholas Nikolov is a BeverlyHills, California board-certified plastic surgeon. As a top surgeonin his field, Dr. Nikolov blogsregularly about the latest in plastic surgery understands the subtle details that make a truly life-changing difference in a person’s looks.

One of the ways he does this is by recommending that all face-lift patients consider the ear lobe surgery in addition to their face work to create the most natural looking enhancement.

Dr. Nikolov tells Monsters and Critics that gravity takes its toll on earlobes, but is easily remedied: “Over time, earlobes can elongate and droop very similar to breasts, under upper arms (bat wings) and chins, aging you immediately. This is of course exacerbated by heavy earrings and hoops that are so popular now.”

Medicare crisis tackled by SignatureMD for average consumers

American company SignatureMD is among the handful of private enterprises successfully bringing solutions to average families for the health care crisis – without government involvement.

In 30 days Medicare cuts to doctorpayments are scheduled to be slashed by a drastic 27.4%. Already operating on the thinnest of profit margins, most primary-care doctors in private practices – the typical family doctor – are trembling over the prospect of losing up to 50% or more of their income as a result.

Most will bleed red; many will go bankrupt. This AP article from earlier in the week underscored how many doctors are planning exit strategies from their businesses now, whether or not the cuts actually are made. In other words, they’re sick and tired of the whole system and want out sooner rather than later:

The Pippa ‘lift’: A new plastic surgery trend

NEED A LIFT?
Women all over the world coveted Pippa Middleton’s ivory, Sarah Burton-designed dress as they watched the royal wedding. Some viewers also wondered how they could look like the perky maid of honor.

Now plastic surgeons have dubbed a procedure to make that happen the “Pippa butt lift.”

Does the desire to replicate that region of the body sound familiar? Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian have been recent role models for some women.

But reports in the media say that Pippa’s posterior is the new paragon, especially for petite women.

“The latest craze here in the U.S. and all over the world is to get the ‘Pippa Butt Lift,’ ” Miami-based celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Constantino Mendieta told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “Once the breast implants reigned supreme, now it is the buttocks that are considered a woman’s best asset.”

ABC’s “Good Morning America” earlier this week interviewed a patient of Mendietta, a 28-year-old single mother who went for Pippa’s look. “Her frame just looked incredible in that dress,” said the woman, Christina Valdez. “I love the results … I feel sexy.”

The procedure involves lipsuction on the stomach, with that fat transplanted into the buttocks. The surgery takes 2 hours; Recovery can take 6 weeks.

The body contouring craze also is being met with criticism.

“If you want a nice backside,” suggested one commenter on ABC’s website, “lift weights and build the glutes. You don’t need to ‘sculpt fat’  in that area. You can’t build breasts, but you can certainly build an attractive backside.”
