In February I talk about The Perfect Derma Peel and the products that they have to help maintain your skin after a peel. I also said that I would be doing one of the peels. I did a few weeks ago, so I wanted to share with you how it went and of course after. I have done masks before on my face but I had never done a chemical facial peel.
I live near Las Vegas so for my peel I went to Beyond Skin Anti-Aging Medical Institute. This isn’t something you do at home, you do need to have it done in a doctor’s office. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was quiet and nice. Lana welcomed myself and my daughter into her office. From start to finish it was about a half hour to 45 mins. A lot of it was talking, preparing and discussing aftercare.
Like most women, I don’t like to take selfies without makeup let alone putting them online for the world to see so please be nice.
The morning of the peel I was told to wash my face and not to apply any makeup or lotions. After I got there I washed my face again with their Perfect Cleanser. If you ever have a chance to buy this, do it. It smells so good and makes your skin feel amazing. Then I sat in the chair, kind of like a dentist chair, since they lay you back a little bit. Lana prepped my skin, let that dry and then start to apply the peel solution. Most of my face she went over twice. There was an area under my bottom lip that was kind of white so she only did that once (it turned white after the first swipe). That told her that my skin had something going on under, like acne or something simple. Once she was done with the second “swipe” it was done. It was kind of like taking a alcohol pad and wiping my face. In my mind it was a much longer and complicated steps.
Lana gave me an after kit that told me what to do each day. The first few hours after I had a little bit of burning feeling but really only on the part under my lip and my cheekbone on the right side of my face. It wasn’t bad, just a little uncomfortable. I was told if it was bad I could put a dab of the moisturizer cream or some cortisone cream if i had to. Luckily it wasn’t that bad. It’s really hard not to touch your face when something is on it, especially when you are told not to.
The next morning I was to very gently wash and pat dry my face. After that I took the first post-peel towelette and vigorously applied it on my face. Then I could apply sunscreen. Sunscreen is always important but even more during the peel process. That night I had to repeat the process with the second towelette. After the second day I could start applying the moisturizer they provided. It’s really important to keep the skin well moisturized. You don’t want it to dry out. Also no matter what DO NOT PICK at your face. When the skin starts to peel you can use the moisturizer to help that process, but don’t pick at it. Picking at it can cause scarring as you are pulling off some skin that wasn’t ready to come off yet.
For the first few days I looked like I had a sunburn and then it looked like I was peeling from that sunburn. Luckily I didn’t have to go many places during the week it takes to get done peeling. During the week long process, the only bad part was under my bottom lip where it bubbled a little during the peel. That area got really hard skin and was a little painful. It didn’t last long as I was able to put on the cortisone cream and i kept applying the moisturizer all day to keep it moist. Once that healed it was great. If I did it again, I would just have them do a very little bit in that area to avoid irritation.
You can start wearing light makeup on day 3 if you want, I personally did wait longer but that’s just me. By the end of the week I was dying to wear full makeup again.
The one area I was hoping this peel would help with is my rosacea on my cheeks. Sometimes it’s not bad and makeup can cover it, but other times it flares up and you can see it through makeup and it’s not fun. I will say that The Perfect Derma Peel was well worth it and did make my cheeks look better, and overall my face look and feel better.
If you have been thinking of doing a peel, I would look up and see if a Dr is near you, call and talk to them and see if this is perfect for you. Check out their FAQ for more information. Mother’s Day is coming up in a month, and this would be a great gift for your wife, mom or really any woman in your life.
