My husband and I love our coffee, especially the dark roast. We don’t drink coffee only for the caffeine, but because we truly love the taste. But, not all coffees taste the same. There are some brands I will never buy because the taste is not fresh or bold enough. The first day I opened a bag of my Dancing Moon Full Moon Gourmet Blend ground coffee I could smell the freshness. I had a cup and didn’t even need a sweetener, the taste was good enough. Before I married my husband I was not a coffee drinker at all. I thought it was all the same and well nasty tasting unless it had a pound of sugar in it to kill bad taste. Are you a coffee drinker? Do you live on caffeine? I know I sure do! What’s funny is that I actually used to loathe coffee! The smell used to make me gag. My caffeine of choice in college was Moutain Dew! I used to drink it on the way to school at 8 am and then drink it throughout the day! It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I started to drink coffee. And now here I am, in my 40s and I drink at least 4 cups a day! That is why of course I must feature coffee in our Holiday Gift Guide!!

Nick Pronovich has three words for anyone thinking about retirement: “Don’t do it.”

The 74-year-old found himself forced into an early retirement in 2001 when his job was eliminated as a result of that year’s recession. He spent the next year doing freelance work and trying to find a new position but soon learned it was hard for someone pushing age 60 to compete with 30-something job applicants. In 2002, after a career in advertising that spanned 40 years, Pronovich hung up his hat for good and decided to make his retirement permanent. (more…)

Part of the enjoyment of the coffee experience starts before the first sip. The aroma awakens the senses in expectation of the satisfaction anticipated. And to quote a famous rock lyric, “I can’t get no satisfaction.”

I’ve tried to be modern. Both iCoffee and Keurig have sent Monsters and Critics their latest models for review. Both were impressive, shiny…and problematic, as the iCoffee brewed consistently different amounts of coffee into my cup, all weak, and then the Keurig followed suit, with equally anemic java output, despite me using the lowest ounce selection on the dial.
