At the 56th Emmy Awards event, I was shocked when I saw “So You Think You Can Dance” star Mary Murphy, who we’ve been tracking in her weight loss journey with the new Italian Comfort food Diet, Tisanoreica.
“I am at 22.5 pounds and heading fast to my 30 pound weight loss goal,” said the leggy former dancer, who also shared with me her friendship with diet founder and nutritionist Gianluca Mech. “I love Gianluca, he’s completely rebooted my diet and I just love the Tisanoreica pasta and potato swaps, there’s no carb craving because I can eat the right kind of pastas and lose this stubborn weight.”
Fun fact: Back in the day, supermodel Iman toted her homemade foundations along to her fashion gigs for 14 years. Why? Makeup artists didn’t have anything in their expansive kits to match her darker complexion. Fast-forward to the present and lines like L’Oréal and YSL have added darker shades to their signature products, but black women are still struggling to find the perfect match. Behind all of the “Caramel” and “Coffee” foundation tones, there’s a basic lack of knowledge about dark skin tones. Many cosmetic companies only produce one or two dark shades with one or two undertones — and this is one category where “one or two sizes fits all” doesn’t work. At all.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The flawless looks about to be unveiled on the Oscars red carpet have been months in the making and require an army of experts.
With perhaps the highest concentration of cameras anywhere in the world that night, plus millions of viewers keenly critiquing every outfit, Oscar’s red carpet is the ultimate runway, where designers and their muses are discovered and celebrated. Hair and makeup trends are established. New style-setting stars are crowned. And sartorial scorn is heaped upon those who make even the slightest misstep.
All that perfection takes a lot of preparation. Here’s a look at the standard steps and secret tricks that stars employ to get red carpet ready:
Overeating and skipping the gym aren’t the only ways to derail your weight-loss efforts: Simply telling yourself certain things could program your brain for failure. “When we consciously make negative statements about our abilities, it gets embedded in the subconscious, which can then control our behavior,” says Anandhi Narasimhan, MD, a Los Angeles-based psychiatrist. What’s even trickier: Some sabotaging self-talk doesn’t sound that harmful! Steer clear of the following common statements to get back on the right mental track.
1. “I always…” and “I never…”All-or-nothing statements, like “I always choose the unhealthiest meal at restaurants” and “I never work out as hard as I should,” cause you to do that exact behavior, says Dr. Narasimhan. You feel you can’t help yourself, so these become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Dr. Narasimhan suggests instead vowing to “get better every day at achieving my healthy diet and exercise goals.”
This is a warning about cut rate beauty procedures called “pumping.” It’s a dangerous way to try to get those sexy curves made so famous by celebs like Kim Kardashian and J-Lo.

Dr. Andre Berger, a cosmetic surgeon and anti-aging expert who has performed hundreds ofVampire Face-Lift procedures says, “This is another unfortunate example of the serious risks of putting your cosmetic needs above common sense and allowing unlicensed individuals to perform cosmetic treatments. The Vampire Face Lift is a seemingly innocuous and perfectly safe procedure in the right hands and as this proves, it can be a fatal disaster in the wrong hands.”
