In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Christine Petti details everything a woman should know about her breasts and what actually happens if you have surgery
Christine Petti, M.D., is a board-certified plastic surgeon with a private practice in the South Bay and Los Angeles area since 1988. She specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery, aesthetic laser surgery and non-invasive surgical cosmetic rejuvenation procedures and as the rare woman in a male-dominated filed, she offers a distinctive female perspective to cosmetic surgical procedures. She pioneered the concept 25 years ago of combining a plastic surgery practice with an on-site, full-service medical day spa, Spa Bella, which she serves as Medical Director.

At the 56th Emmy Awards event, I was shocked when I saw “So You Think You Can Dance” star Mary Murphy, who we’ve been tracking in her weight loss journey with the new Italian Comfort food Diet, Tisanoreica.
“I am at 22.5 pounds and heading fast to my 30 pound weight lossgoal,” said the leggy former dancer, who also shared with me her friendship with diet founder and nutritionist Gianluca Mech. “I love Gianluca, he’s completely rebooted my diet and I just love the Tisanoreica pasta and potato swaps, there’s no carb craving because I can eat the right kind of pastas and lose this stubborn weight.”

Fall is in the air and that means the flu is right around the corner.
Millions of Americans are going to be affected by this virus before the year is over, some will be laid up for days while others will be achy and sneezing and coughing for weeks.
It makes sense to get a flu shot each fall. Influenza is still responsible for several thousand deaths every year in the United States, and beefing up your own immune system annually can trim your chances of developing this nasty bug. Don’t worry, the way vaccinations are formulated now, you won’t “get the flu” by getting the shot.

The beachside dream city of Malibu is becoming a nightmare to some residents as high-end rehab centers take over precious real estate and attract Hollywood celebrities, paparazzi, and the occasional crazy naked man.
The posh occasional residences of stars like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears are becoming so numerous in Malibu—which is home to 35 rehab facilities but just 12,600 people—that some have called it the world’s Capital of Detox.
Residents are now fighting back to stop the constant expansion of the facilities and roll back the rehab tide.

MALIBU, CALIF. — Cliffside, Summit, Milestones, Seasons. The names suggest New Age spas or, perhaps, recent-vintage vineyards. They sprawl across the scrubby foothills of this storied coastal town and survey its expensive, eroding beaches, their comforts rivaling those of world-class resorts.
They promote their privacy and exclusivity even as they bask in the reflected glory of their celebrated patrons. (Anyone who passed a newsstand last month knows that Lindsay Lohan spent her summer vacation at Cliffside.) And they’re spreading. As of July, there were 35 state-licensed drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities in this city (population 12,645), in addition to a multiplying number of unlicensed sober-living homes.

Everyone loves a brilliant new tweak to keep from having plastic surgery.
Fillers, the realm of FDA approved brands of injectable materials like Evolence, Juvederm, Belotero, Radiesse, Restylane®, Artefill, Sculptra and the passé Collagen based dermal fills, are what we know about now.
A brand new type of injectable called Voluma is about to receive FDA approval, and from what we hear from across the pond, where Voluma is in use, the smoother moleculed dermal filler is going to be a huge hit here.

Mary Murphy, the new American spokesperson for Italy’s most popular weight-loss program, Tisanoreica, dubbed “the Italian Comfort Food Diet” is down 20 pounds in 6 weeks. The leggy former ballroom dancer celebrated this feat by having a dance with “So You Think You Can Dance” fellow judge Nigel Lythgoe on the season finale.
Gianluca Mech selected Mary for her personality and interest in the lifestyle diet and product line of staple foods that allows you pizza, pasta and other traditionally carb laden goodies while you slim down. Their products are made with special herbal extracts and fiber that mimic flour and grain, but process differently and allow you to whittle down.

If you’re middle class and you think that your relationship with your family doctor is secure, think again.
Come January 1st when the Affordable Care Act takes effect, your doctor may not be around, or even if he or she is, you may be seeing a nurse practitioner or physician assistant during your next visit. The health care system is about to become a game of musical chairs, and when the music stops, there’s no guarantee you’ll have a seat.
Despite the partisan debate concerning the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare), both sides of the political spectrum endorse one aspect of it: Patients should no longer be denied coverage because of an existing medical condition. But the mechanism in the law that makes that possible – mandating that all 33 million previously uninsured Americans obtain health insurance – also will exacerbate the already dire doctor shortage in the U.S., which is projected to be 65,000 by the end of next year. To make matters worse, the doctor shortage is particularly acute among primary care physicians (internists, G.P.’s, family doctors, pediatricians).

Remember when you were a child and your mother would warn you to not make ugly faces because your face might stay that way?
Recent studies published in the National Library Of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health now say that if you have sad, depressed looking faces, that will translate to your emotional state thereby making you psychologically sad and depressed.

New York’s famous 42nd Street will offer natives and visitors a new sight later this week: a mammoth, six-story billboard with a striking message: “Warning—Obamacare may be hazardous to your health.”
It’s part of The Heritage Foundation’s continuing public education campaign to inform the American people about the dangerous side-effects of this unfair, unaffordable and unworkable law, and how it can be stopped.
How will ObamaCare—a 2,700-page law passed by a single vote over bipartisan opposition— harm Americans’ health?
Well, here are five of its worst side effects.
First, many Americans will lose their current health coverage. That’s what’s happening to Rod Coons and Florence Peace, a married couple in Indianapolis. Rod and Florence like their current plan.
